It is just different qualities you have to have to be a good F1 driver today. Pressure is today much higher than 60 years ago. Nowadays drivers have to be more like perfectionists at almost everything. 60 years ago you had to bring your car through to the end. Anyhow. Every time has and had it special requirements.

@mikiowned Lol, i wouldnt exactly class a seat belt as a driving aid :p Plus there arent any driving aids used at the minute other than semi-automatic gears and anti-stall. But the car Fangio drove wouldnt wreck itself if you got the clutch wrong, and he wouldnt need a laptop to restart the car ; )

fitness wise schumi more than likely has him licked, but shcumi survived that near fatal crash at silverstone at 180 mph and got a broken leg if fangio or hawthorn in the 50`s did that theyll be in the pearly gates as fast as they hit the barirer that is how schumi coudlnt compare to fangio it took balls of steel and nerves that where on steriods

That was a mere statement of politeness on the part of Schumacher. A modern F1 car could not be driven by an out-of-shape sportsman like Fangio, who drove cars capable of approx.1 g lateral acceleration, and about the same amount of longitudinal deceleration, while those experienced forces are NOW to be multiplied by a factor 5. In terms of physical and mental strain, the modern F1 has no match, and the old F1 does compare to an outing in a rallye car. But, Schumi could take ANY CAR to the limit

scumacher said he couldnt match fangio when he won his 5th championship and hes right fangio had no driver aids seat belts and sat on the fuel tank
