@smith45acp it happens 8) i am 320 from the shower. even if you are not over 300, you have to figure in your gear.. on a cold day, i would bet someone weighing 250 would be hard presses not to cross the 300 limit.

I've used the Summit Viper for two years now and it's been great. I've read of concern regarding weight capacities. I'm 260 at 6'2" and have never felt unsafe in my stand. Of course, I don't climb with my gear on my back either and hoist it up like the rest of you. In my two years I've never lost my stand due to me or it becoming separated, but that means I'm due. The harness that came with my stand is only OK, but I have more faith in my HSS vest plus it is easier to move with. Good Luck

Regarding the weight limit, I personally don't know anyone using a climber stand who weighs over 300 lbs! Not to say it never happens

@CRAZYCRAZYCRAZYCHASE very cool! you can get a hell of a good deal on some things off craigs list! i'm looking for a toyota tacoma. every now and then you can find someone who's desperate to sell and they mark it way down. hopefully i'll find hunting gear like that!

Been using the Viper for years. Doesn't get any better. Thanks for putting together these vids.

I think I'll get the Field & Stream climber from Dicks. I've done some researching and haven't found anything negative about it. Other than the steel model for weight. In fact it receives praise from a few hunting forums. Plus it only costs $150 and weights 21 lbs.
How do you carry a back pack with you, if you want to?

@jrose2020 Tie an 18" section of parachute cord or something similar to the grab loop on the top of your pack (assuming it has one - most do) and use that section of cord to tie your pack to the stand after the two pieces have been nested into the carrying configuration. Then take the nylon strap that is used to secure the stand to a tree and use it to strap the pack down onto the stand. Pretty much like loading a frame pack.

I like to climb a tree that is about 12 - 14 inches in diameter - if possible. Species of tree makes a big difference too. White oaks with soft, smooth bark are my favorite, hickorys with very hard and sometimes very rough bark, are least favorite.
