Or...it says to the 3-4 million little cheerleaders in the U.S. that looks or stereotypes shouldn't define them. They're going to need a career (cheerleading will not pay the bills): why not make it a science or engineering career?

While I was in summer school, I met a girl who was incredibly intelligent. However, because she was "pretty", she eschewed her intelligence and focused primarily on her social life. The idea that as a girl, one is either smart, or ugly but never both is distracting, and leads to attractive women ignoring learning... this lets attractive girls know that you can be pretty _AND_ well educated. There are already plenty of Amy Farrah Fowlers out there for the socially rejected girls to cling to...

I think the only reason people can dislike this is because they now can say just like I did "A cheerleader made me feel dumb today". :) And I'm a 2nd year medical student. BTW where were you guys when I was in high school ;) People should be impressed not annoyed by this

How can anybody be against this? Little girls, who want to be ballerinas and princesses just might learn that they too can learn science, despite what society at large tells them.

    Well done!

This is great! My daughter is involved in dance and and loves cheerleading. She wants to be OB/GYN and this is great inspiration for her.

Funny. Traditionally science has been a stigmatized field and the young men interested in it were often bullied for having an unusual hobby. Now that we see how financially successful science can be, we have to destroy and sort of discomfort that might discourage girls from science.

Why is it that society pigeon holes men and rolls out red carpets for women? Now I know why men have shorter lives than woman: they want to die.

I think this is fantastic. It doesn't suggest that women in science *have* to be conventionally pretty, just that being pretty and enjoying cheerleading don't disqualify you from being smart and/or interested in science. I'm not a cheerleader, but I am both extremely girly and interested in science, so this seems great to me.

some chicks with degrees wont make a difference like it didnt made difference in terms of gender equality after the first women came into politics (nor does it today).

greetings from a country which has more women in important positions (like the lead of the country) and only gave women a right to vote 26 years ago. today we have the biggest income per head, lowest criminal rate, a modern health care system and a dual education system which is free for everyone till the end of college.
