  • Gary, nice demonstration as always. For those who criticize by comparing it with other martial arts and calling it bullshit, you do not understand aikido. Those of us who train, learn the philosophy and understand that the goal is not to "kick ass", rather, to neutralize a conflict, leaving your opponent unharmed. In addition, the techniques that Gary demonstrates are equivalent to giving music lessons. Once you learn how to play, and practice, you one day become ready to play in a symphony.

  • Picture I down cut with a katana, it's pretty much the same thing only with a knife hand. He's interupting the strike before it ever gets high enouph to have momentum.

  • @RGdood Kind of like you are right now.LOL

  • I bet this guy was a pussy in high school

  • @lsavalla: Of course - at least ultimately. But that's not what's going on here. This is a demonstration of key points in performing a technique; NOT a demonstration of "look how effective and devastating this technique is". By practicing from static, we learn posture, balance, energy and technique. As we move up in our experience of aikido, things become more dynamic and there is more energy and more flow. What we're looking at here is analogous to a "how to" video.

  • @SilkyTP Very well said my friend :)

  • yeah but who comes at u like that

  • @Duhnata Excellent comment. I have been in Aikido for 5 years now and see the concept of interupting the attack in almost every technique. This reminds me of Bruce Lee saying that the translation of Jeet Kun Do in cantonese was "Way of the intercepting fist"

  • SilkyTP I agree with your summary of Aikido, but shouldn't the Uki really try to strike the Tori? I mean no disrespect but most of the people looking at this demo don't understand how this technique would apply to self defense. All the same I am a vary big fan of Aikido.
