bismillaahi-R-Rahmaani-R-Rahiim,
May Allaah send His peace and blessings upon Prophet Muhammad, his wives, family, and companions, and all those who follow them with righteousness until the last day.

Beautiful recitations of 2 of the 10 styles of Quranic recitations, Qaaluun 'an naafi' (In the way of Shatibiyyah) and Warsh 'an naafi' recited by Shaykhul Qurraa' of Canada and Director of the
Shatibiyyah Institute for Tajweed and Qiraa'aat, Qaari Uthman Khan, may Allaah increase his rewards.
He recites Verses 1 to 13 from Surat Al Baqarah.

The hafs style of reciting is the most known and widespread in the world (about 90% of the world recites it) but these 2 styles of reciting, both from Naafi', although not widespread, must be teached and spread because, first they are of the sunnah, and actually when Imam Malik was asked a question regarding the recitation of the Qur'an he said,
"In any knowledge, question its proper people. Naafi' is the Imam of the people in recitation."
He also said, "The recitation of the people of Madina is sunna." He was asked, "The recitation of Naafi'?" He replied, "Yes."
In fact Imam Malik was a student of Naafi' both in Quran recitation and in hadith.

Ahmad ibn Hanbal was asked by his son which of the recitations he preferred and he said, "The recitation of the people of Madina."

And it is reported that the Prophet (SAW) and arabs in general would also simplify when there was a hamza for example pronounce "muuminuun" (like in warsh) over "mu*minuun" (like in hafs) or "dhibu" over "dhi*bu" ("Wolf" like in surah Yuusuf [12:13-14] even when speaking/dialoguing )

May Allaah make us of the people of the Quran, and teach us with it what we didn't know and make it a proof for us not against us on the day of Judgement and a light for us in this life and the next.

  • @wiseonekms i really suggest you go to the top sheikh in your town, who has a chain of recitation (ijaaza) going back to the prophet (SAW) and if he knows many qiraa°at its the best. Al hamdulillaah i was blessed to be around students of one who had ijaaza's with the 10 recitations in montreal, and know some who have ijaaza in algeria also, it's without a doubt the best way to learn how to recite Qur°aan

  • @juniid Walaykum assalam brother. Jazakallah khayr for the information. I was always a bit confused on the rules for the different tareeqah on the madd. Again, I don't recite Warsh, and I don't know much of the rules, but this helps.

  • So you have madd al laazim, mim al jaami', madd al muttasil, madd al munfasil all 6 harakat mandatory (on warsh by tareeq al azraq)

and madd leen mahmuz and madd al badal 4 or 6 harakat, or 2 for madd al badal also, so you must really have a good breath!

  • Another thing of warsh i like is the addition of mim al jaami' another wajib 6 harakat

(ex: "3alaykumuuuuuu Anfusakum") When there is a hamza after the mim sukun I believe,

And also in warsh in the madd leen mahmuuz, you do it 4 or 6 harakat also (6 being the option if you do 6 harakat it madd al badal also)

For example: "shayyyy°aa" while for hafs and Qaluun for example it's "Shayy°aa"

  • @wiseonekms as salaamu 'alaykum, i just write back cause i asked a brother student of Warsh for a few years who is mashaa Allaah, and he said the many obligatory 6 harakat madd are for warsh recited in the tareeqah of Al Azraq, probably the most widespread. but on tareeq Al Asbahaanee apparently you can recite madd al munfasil with only 2 harakat also.

  • @wiseonekms yes in hafs according to the chain of recitation you follow you can do madd al munfasil with 2 harakat only, and madd al muttasil with 4 (madd al laazim with 6 like all other recitations) or you can do 4 and 4 for both, actually there is so much tareeqas of recitation for hafs, that i heard you can do 2,3,4,5, and 6 !

But of course each tareeqah has some unique rules to it.

  • While Warsh recited madd al muttasil AND al munfasil with 6 harakat (obligatory!) plus in warsh, with madd al badal you can recite 2,4, or 6 harakat!

    For example;

    ''Alladhiina aamanuu, aaaamanuu, or aaaaaamanuu''

While for hafs and qaaluun (to my small knowledge) you can only do it 2 harakat.

Plus the imaala etc, i really want to learn warsh qira'a it is amazing subhanallaah

  • @juniid this is true. While I prefer Hafs over all the other types, I do understand why many people prefer the inclusion of the six harakaat for the madd. One of my friends gets very upset actually when Sudais and Muaqily don't do it. But, in Hafs it's optional, so I don't ever understand why he gets so mad? lol.

  • @MrAlmuazzin breath taking is the word, especially for warsh with the amazing obligatory 6 vowels prolongations (madd) You must really have good breath to recite in Warsh.

  • Breath taking Subhanallah warsh recitation is my favourite preference by far
