Heading to Rockaway Park Yard after passing the Beach 105th Street - Seaside station, after being run light from Mott Avenue Far Rockaway, is this ten car train of Budd Company (1964/65) R-32 cars, in the following consist (south end to north end, in the order to which it was running) 3388/89, 3871/70, 3733/32, 3661/60, 3726/27. Though they are on borrowed time, they are expected to soldier on at least 2 more years. They will be 50 years old by the time they are fully retired from service. This is the Rockaway Park Shuttle Line (S, formerly known and to some known as the H) and also some A Line trains during peak hours operate from Rockaway Park-Beach 116th Street in the AM, and to Rockaway Park in the PM. Catch these old glories while they are still running!!! :-)

And forgive the "less than HD, crappy quality", as I used a fairly old 10 MP Sony point and shoot I keep in my truck, and not either of my Nikon or Panasonic DSLRs,

  • @chealy349 Yes indeed!!! These babies can FLY!!! (By NYCT standards) I have sadly heard though their maintenance since I left has become lackluster, which is a shame because these babies could outdo ANY NTT POS anyday!!! I would take these down the road LONG before I would settle for any NTT R-160 POS!!!

  • VERY NICE VIDEO!

  • @NYBOY75 Thanks!!!! If you are about the A and C Lines here in the city, get 'em while you can!! about 2 years left on the remaining R-32s, and the R-46s are pretty dominant. There is also a train of R-42s hanging around!! I shall seek those next!!

  • It's amazing how these things were built to stand the test of time. They say some of the new cars are built to last even longer. I guess we'll find out if they do or not.

  • @murjax I will be EVERYTHING that the R-160s won't last half as long!! Too much technology!!! Mechanics always stand the test of time, technology had to constantly change and upgrade just to last 10 years!!

  • @MNRRConductor2006 These and the R33WFs are my favorites! R142s are ok, but I strongly agree with you about the R160s! I hate them, make horrible noise and have a sad look!

  • @MNRRConductor2006 You have a good point there, though I believe if they think differently about the technology used in rail engines and power/cab cars, they can develop something that will last. Technology doesn't necessarily have to be upgraded all the time. That's just what we're used to. Our computers and phones don't need to last more than a few years because there's always a better one coming out and since production is so cheap, our old machines lose their purpose.
