Manipulation under anaesthesia for frozen shoulder can be a treatment option for frozen shoulder which has not improved with physiotherapy. It can also be the initial step before arthroscopic shoulder capsular release. By Dr HC Chang, HC Chang Orthopaedic Surgery Pte Ltd, www.ortho.com.sg, SINGAPORE

  • The pain can be very well controlled by having an indwelling catheter at around the neck to block the brachial plexus (nerves). This causes the shoulder to be numb for a few days. Patient needs intensive physiotherapy. Typically takes 3 months to get better.
