How to Play "Fake Empire" by the National

The song is actually in 3/4. With a 4 against 3 poly rhythm. Which in the case of this song is 3 bass notes for every 4 treble, or 3 quarter notes and 4 dotted eights notes.

for anyone who is familiar with musical notation, the rhythm is basically in 4/4 with the bass note on a full measure triplet, which gives it a 9/8 feel, and the higher notes fall on the quarter notes. this may not be exactly right, but its definitely a close approximation.

You play rhythm like this right? :

treble |-x--x--x--x-|

bass |x---x---x---|

and I think it should maybe go like this:

treble |x--x--x--x--|

bass |x---x---x---|

Its the same pattern, just the 2nd one starts with both bass and treble picking in the same time rather than starting the chord with picking bass little earlier than treble.

Im not sure of this, but it sounds a little better and its a little easier playing it this way, so please check it out and correct me if Im wrong..
