Abba - Merry-Go-Round

Here is my daughter Helen and her new husband Andy on their wedding day in Taormina, Sicily in Ocober 27 2006. There was a civil ceremony in the Town Hall first. Then we all walked through the main street to the church for the marriage ceremony. In the main square on the way was a group of musicians, which provided a marvellous photo opportunity. The locals formed a circle and clapped and cheered throughout this dance. My request for Fernando was politely turned down! This guy was clearly not Benny.
Helen is a teacher in Gloucester, Andy is a fireman in Cheltenham. Helen got an English degree at college, I am very proud of her. This is one of my favorite songs, and seemed most appropriate for this dancing square photo.
Merry-Go-Round was recorded on March 29 1972 at Metronome Studio, Stockholm. It was released in Sweden in June 1972 as the B-side of the single People Need Love under the name of Bjorn, Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid. This song had earlier been recorded in Swedish by Bjorn and Benny as "En Karusell". In Japan, the record company chose Merry-Go-Round for the A-side.
This was the first record as a group for the four young Swedes. Bjorn recalls: "From that time on, we were convinced we could work together as a quartet and contemplate doing more things. But we weren't in a rush, since Agnetha was still under contract to CBS-Cupol."

Its on their very first album Ring, Ring from 1973. There are lots more uniquely tuneful and not often heard catchy songs like this on that album, and I've done a video for all of them! You can't help loving Abba!

Yes this is a typical catchy album track from Abba. Its unique and tuneful with a nice tempo and perfect backing harmonies from the girls as always! Their Ring Ring album has 14 similarly uniquely tuneful songs and must be one of the best debut albums ever. Abba music is timeless and will definitely live forever. Their new Mamma Mia film will make sure of that!

@abbafanglosuk wasn't it a single En Karusell (Merry-go round)? I think it never reached the alboms, was only on some compilations. But perhaps it was on some version of Ring Ring too...
