A brilliant, tongue-in-cheek animated short by Zlatko Grgic, circa 1971, on the hazards and responsibilities of handling fire. To watch a clean copy, or to purchase this short (or other wonderful shorts), please visit www.nfb.ca/film/hot_stuff.
(Note: I do not own this short)

  • YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES. I have been looking for this forever.

The "...Cream?" thing has been a running joke in my family for years. I was under the impression it was called "Where There's Smoke...".

  • @Lonpon Yes!!! You're not alone in that...it took me many, many moons to remember what it was called, too...

  • "The next time, we give the fire to the woman." Umm... weren't they watching Poopsie's wife leaving the iron on and then trying to put out the fire with a perfume diffuser??? ;)

  • As a kid back in the 1970's, I can remember how this short film was shown alot, at least once once every summer camp vacation.

But why Can't I find 1979's - National Film Board of Canada's; "What The Hell's Going on Up There" ?

    Biting humour, OUCH!!.. indeed.

Abolafia does point out who is running the show (only few Jewish jibes). So he does set it to 'brainwashing' sarcasm kindly make alittle fun at America's way of looking at the world. Overall the short film creates true laughter.

  • @Ellipser Hmm, I do believe you can purchase that particular DVD from the National Film Board website...but I haven't seen any links to a free viewing, myself... still, we can hope someone will post it here one day! :)

  • This scared the shitting hell out of me when I was only little. :C

  • @teratophobia Same here!!!! But now, as a twisted adult, I find it oddly fascinating... :)

  • "Poopsie"? o.m.g.

  • hahahaha I love these little shorts.Only in Canada.

  • Oh lordy! I remember this from grade school and never forgotten it...the cat(it's in the refrigerator, next to the cream...don't call me POOPSIE!)

  • II remember that cat and his constant mentions of cream after 40 some years!

  • @OofusTwillip Long Live Kevin Clash!!!!

  • I love the final line: "In the end, all was chaos and fire. The gods were angry. Again."

In other words, humans are stupid, and, given half a chance, they WILL screw up.

  • @cstoczyn - Not Grover. Goriddle. This puppet (along with Gary Gnu) were on "The Great Space Coaster". They were played by Kevin Clash, who later joined the Muppetteers on "Sesame Street". He's most famous for bringing Elmo to life.

  • @GOJIRAFAN1963 - It also aired on "The Great Space Coaster", minus the credits, so it was only several years later that I discovered it was a National Film Board of Canada cartoon.

To this day, I still find parts of it VERY creepy!
