Saying Hello in islam

Some people says that saying Hello or Hi is non islamic before start conversation. Its not like that some time we say hello or hi to get attention of other person. On phone we first say hello then say Assalam o Alaikum or walikum slaam.....etc...still some conservative mind person are very strict to dont use hello or hi and force others too. I also heard in my life that Huzur Shaykh ul Islam Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri sb said Hello before start conversation on phone.
