On July 18, 2012, the first of a series of protests against the expansion of the Enbridge Tar Sands oil pipeline began with a "human oil spill" at the Lansing Capitol. The purpose was to remind the community of the devastation caused by the Kalamazoo River oil spill, while educating about the company's expansion proposal.
