This is a short video of me and my brother's first recorded hog hunt. Unfortunately the hog came down right on top of us so i almost didn't start recording in time and it was so close (like 15ft away from my brother) i was afraid to move to get a better view. The shot was right in the forehead and killed him instantly..

Just a few days before i went out by myself and i saw THIRTEEN come out right in that spot, at the same time.. and later over about a 45 minute time period i seen 4 more. I shot 2 that evening but wasn't able to get any videos or pictures sadly!

  • This is probably common sense but if you shoot something and it happens to get away onto some one's land, DO NOT go after it without contacting the land owner and getting permission first or it is trespassing, and a felony! As long as you approach them respectfully (not all decked out in hunting gear like rambo, and using their driveway helps) , they probably wont mind if you harvested your animal.

  • I had a game warden tell me once that if the animal ran onto land after i shot it, it was the same as trespassing but i don't think that's actually true (never read anything about it anyway) i think he was just trying to scare me into trying to be an ethical hunter.. which i always try anyway.

  • yes, in texas it is legal to hunt on any 'navigable river' (i'm pretty sure that means any river that can be navigated in a canoe or by foot.. motorized vehicles are illegal) but, you have to stay in the river bed and for it to be legal you have to shoot your game while it's IN the riverbed.

  • Nice work. That rifle kicks some don't it?

What stretch of the Brazos are yall on?

  • My neighbors have a big black bristly dead feral hog lying in front of their mailbox. It must have been hit by a car. I hate to see how the car must look! I hope the scavengers get it before it really starts stinking! I suspected we had them, now I know for sure.

  • i am from phx az. my wife is from arlinton tx. i would like to hunt some hogs and yotes on our next visit to tx. do u know what the rules and regs are for an out of state hunter are?

  • we didn't really, we just kind of scout areas and find out where they are coming down to drink and wallow that week.. a few days before this a big group came down right across the river from there (i got two right in that area that day) so we knew we had a good chance to see one that day.

  • yup, ironically just today we tried out some new hog calls.. although it was our first time ever using them so we didn't sound that good, not to mention it was so windy nothing would have heard us unless it was right on top of us anyway.. the screaming pig in distress was still pretty fun to use..

  • in a sense yes, as long as you are following the normal hunting rules and regulations put out by the state and county you're in (not shooting things out of season, baiting, spotlighing etc).
