It seems like everybody here is lacking proper knowledge.
Here is some REAL facts!
- MIDI is a standard for how to send serial music data between different electronical instruments.
- MIDI has nothing to do with the actual produced sound itself.
- There is no such thing as a "MIDI sound"
- SNES has a sample based sound hardware
- Genesis has FM synthesis (often called MIDI sound for some reason??)
- Amiga has sample based sound hardware
- No console handle music data as MIDI

lol every videogame of the great 8 bit and 16 bit generation was made with Tracker sequencer style like pro tracker on amiga, but the sega genesis (megadrive in europe) can be used in midi device for use and test FM sound the FM sound is a device made by yamaha for the DX7 synth and both are very similar, the ATARI ST can used midi to control AKAI sampler or ROLAND and Korg Rompler synth or expander.

@JasonLee332002 It has a FM midi-synth chip (YM2612) intended for music playback. (see: v=LtKRUM9IUM4)

@AwesomeRickyC but even on the chaos engine the voice wasnt clear, kinda distorted whereas on the amiga its crisp clear
-
@JasonLee332002 because the cartridge of Sega had limited chip size, but Amiga was using a hdd, the genesis can handle that music.

@MegaManCA What else can we expect to hear from an American which didn't experience the full gamut of systems during that time. Whilst Europe, England & Australia embraced EVERY gaming technology., you yourself were subjected to only a handful so as Amiga users we know from friends who owned rival systems that there was no denying the Amiga was the king of the hill during that time after having a broad base of experience with all said systems and more.

@SkylineRKR The Amiga was "famed" for its use of parallax scrolling! Maybe the ports of "some" MD and SNES games lack the parallax but "independent" Amiga titles where overloaded with it! Maybe you were speaking only from a Console conversion standpoint though? ;)
-
@desiv1 Just watched a VID on the megadrive version. It does have MORE layers of parallax scrolling than the Amiga version. But that's just a lazy port. The Amiga can have lots of layers. Just check out Shadow of the Beast as an example. Both systems have great games. And all systems have bad ports.
-
@SkylineRKR You must be confusing the Amiga with another computer. Not only was the Amiga kind of well known FOR it's parallax scrolling, if you watch THIS video, you can see the background IS parallaxed in this game.

Hello you can't compare the Amiga with the snes version....If you want to compare Aladdin Amiga, then with the same game on the Genesis...
Snes aladdin is not the same game...;.)
-
It's not the same game exept that it's called Aladdin....;-)
Genesis and Amiga version are the same (some minor differences)
why would Genesis/Mega-Drive/SNES have a midi ?
no use having a musical instrument digital interface

Course they would have it. Using it they could synthesized many intruments while the file sizes were small. Its just digital signals creating the sounds.
Both Genesis and Snes both produced midi sounds though both could do the odd effect the sound card was designed for on top. You can hear if music is midi quality and if you download any snes/genesis midi file from a site it would sound exactly like a sound coming from when you play the game. PCs used it for sounds/music back then too.

And this games amiga music isn't that great. Though one thing you should notice is that there is voices. Like the one singing the theme at the start and some odd ones when you play. Snes/genesis and and midi sounds would stuggle to produce voices like that. Doing a short word would be quite hard. Can't think of any games on them consoles that had any speaking. Maybe The chaos engine.

did the music really stop like that everytime you hit someone? that shit whould drive me crazy.
anyways, from what i can tell it's the same as the genesis game, except with better music (except that it stops every time theres an in-game audio effect - very shitty).
played it on the genesis; badass game.

Amiga could only produce 4 sounds at once so thats why. Better than the games that forced you to pick between having music only or SFX only. The quality of the sounds though were a lot better than the midi of the genesis/snes.
Aladdin is definitely one of the better ports though. Most games on genesis/snes looked and played better than the amiga version while having more levels. Though all good considering the year the amiga came out.
