I don't like Friedman or his books; read 'em, don't like 'em, despite the 3 pulitzers. It's not just his jingoism that creeps me out it's his blood lust in supporting the Iraq invasion.

Read Paul Erhlich, the failed entomologist who predicted mass starvation in the year 2000 for the US because of our ways. All the doomsayers underestimate the exceptionalism of America and its people to overcome the problems facing us; and, frankly, the rest of the world. Friedman is just another wimpy "Erlich". However, he will still live out his years on your taxpayer money with his university pension. Chomsky might be his neighbor.

Friedman is freeekin nuts. He says to environmentalists "let's make America the greenest country in the world" Duh! Thats what we've been saying for a long time. It's conservatives like Friedman who coined phrases like "environmentalist whackos". Al Gore, Jimmy Carter and others on the left warned us years ago to go green. They excoriated Gore when he warned that the internal combustion engine would be our enemy soon. The oil pouring into the gulf makes Gore's case, period! A bit late Tom?
