I had this song in my head and remembered the movie sequence. It's a memorable and quite beautiful piece, in an unreal sort of way.

This is from the 2001 anime movie "Metropolis", near the end of the film when the Ziggurat is being destroyed. To the soundtrack of Ray Charles' "I Can't Stop Loving You", the hero Kenichi tries to save his friend, the robot girl Tima, whose mind has merged with the Ziggurat. All the while, the Ziggurat tower is collapsing around them.

If you haven't seen the film, it's worth seeking out.

From Wikipedia:
Metropolis (メトロポリス Metoroporisu) is a 2001 anime film and loosely based on the 1949 Metropolis manga created by the late Osamu Tezuka, itself inspired by the 1927 German silent film of the same name, though the two do not share plot elements. The anime, however, does draw aspects of its storyline directly from the 1927 film. The anime had an all-star production team, including renowned anime director Rintaro, Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo as script writer, and animation by Madhouse Studios with conceptual support from Tezuka Productions. In the United States, the anime was given a PG-13 rating by the MPAA for "violence and images of destruction" and TV-14-LV rating when it aired on Adult Swim.

  • You maniacs you blew it up ah damn you god damn you all to hell

  • @OmniTerror that's very good :)

  • This isn't anime. This is Japanese Animation.

  • @marcster1994 Why is that? This movie has a different style from, for example, the Studio Ghibli productions, but I still consider it to be anime. I'd be interested in alternative views.

  • @LsBaba It was a joke.

I was saying that this can't be in the same name as all other anime.

  • @marcster1994 Oh, I see... LOL

  • Anyone notice rock's and duke red's bodies? @0.28

  • I like this movie, but I wish they could make one that follows completely Tezuka's stories. I was kinda disappointed in Buddha's story

  • This scene made me cry.... to see such beautiful technology destroyed; its depressing really, and when Tima fell.. I fell out of my chair and bawled on the floor. :'(

  • I have never seen such amazing drawings, nor such awesome Ideas of design.

  • @TheDukeofCanterbury Show me right now.

Show me anime from 2011 and 2012 that has animation like this.

And it isn't full of moe shit or fanservice

  • @marcster1994

Don't be an idiot. There's plenty of anime even better than this. It's just that most people dismiss anime and miss out on a lot of great stuff. Damn this is a great scene.
