Small video with a flavor of what it was like to take a tour of the stage of Mary Poppins in the New Amsterdam theater on Broadway in March 2008. The tour was offered in exchange for a donation to a charity. We got to meet members of the original cast, stand on the stage, and see the props and sets backstage.

  • this is great can you upload the whole tour at all please?

did they ever tell u how the carpet bag thing is done and how she gets all them things out of her bag?

    please reply thanks

  • No, they never revealed how Mary does the bag tricks.

But many other secrets were discussed, especially how the staging works for some of the scenes. It made you want to see the show again right away, knowing what was going on in the wings.

This was a great tour, taken in March 2008. It was offered in exchange for a donation to a charity. The tour was offered after the curtain call. Several items of signed memorabilia were also offered.

  • I would soo love to work at the New Amsterdam theatre42nd Street. It is my favourite all time theatre and its sooo stunning and ornate inside. I am going back to New York this time next year to see the show again on Broadway so I am hoping and praying that this time I can get a backstage tour of the theatre as missed out last time. Looks a fab backstage tour by the way...did you go to the dressing rooms and understage at all. Ime sooooo jealous! Great tour video..much appreciated thanks xx

  • I love the pictures of the follies girls in the background at 0:58!!!

  • I have been there and to me and my family it is the most beautifull theatre in the world.

    spectacular

  • I agree on your theory because in the song "Temper, Temper" (which I don't think is in the tour) A character comes out of a doll house that's on top of the same table where Mary puts her bag.

  • wait, i still don't get it. even if they put the bag on the side, she takes the things out of the bag in the middle, and there's no hole in the bag, sooo.....???

  • I know for a fact the Hat Stand is extendable (some prop site who helped make it showed it colapsed and fully extended). I don't know about the plant and everything else.

  • The bag trick is done like this , the whole in the side of the bag is for passing things through and they leave it on a tabela at the side of the nursery and a stage hand passed the objects throught the whole. :)

  • Or under the table is a mirror or false panle, that's identical to the back area under the table where the props are being passed to Mary. The bottom also might flip out, or all the things might collapse.

  • omg i luv this i wish i was jane bankss and go to sing with ashley brownn

  • She uses magic ha ha ! only kidding lol would be great to find out how its done maybe theres a hand under the table that passes things to Mary but we just cant see the hand
