On March 19, 2008, students traveled from across the country to gather in Washington D.C., where they sent a loud and clear message to the military recruiters and war profiteers.

FUNK the WAR

  • i like how you guys danced around and really made a difference. good job bringing the soldiers home by the way. we really appreciate it

  • What are you doing to stop this war?

  • im not doing anything and im very aware of it. im not so ignorant to think that dancing and shouting outdated slogans is going to change anything.

  • It's called creative nonviolent civil disobedience. Shutting down streets and intersections in front of some of the biggest war profiteers and preventing "business as usual" is doing much more than dancing and shouting outdated slogans.

  • Right on! Up Against the Wall Motherfucker!

  • I just did thanks, RevolutionMarch. com

You say you want a revolution.

Well then be a part of it.

    RevolutionMarch.

  • I wan be involved in something like this, can you lat me know pleas.

  • "Hell no, we won't go!" was a response to the draft during the Vietnam war. I understand how it applies to Iraq, but it loses a lot of its power because it's no longer a valid threat.

I'm glad that some people are trying to protest, but we've got to do better than this. Words and images are extremely powerful things. Peaceful protest is still protest. If you mean "fuck", say "fuck", not "funk". You're undermining your own cause by making it look like a joke.

  • We funked the war, but we should funk it some more!

  • "fuck those 9-5'ers and their cowardice, that'll show 'em! Only the truly brave fight the power by DANCING."

No truer words were ever spoken.

Free your ass and your mind will follow.

  • i DARE Bush to watch this

  • To explain what I meant, consider this scenario. I'm beating up your grandma. Pulling her hair, kicking her hair, breaking her dentures. You, as a way of showing that you're not going to sit back and tolerate it, turn on some music real loud, invite your buddies, and dance on my lawn.

I have plenty of plans, if you're willing to really sacrifice or die for a cause. But no, sorry, I don't have one that merely involves getting stoned, yelling a lot, and dancing to bad music.

  • Celebration or Protest?

  • "I think you clearly sent the message that you ARE going to sit back and tolerate it."

I'm not sure what you mean by that, even if you're under the assumption that Funk the War is the only antiwar action any of us have ever taken and we all just show up, walk away, and move on. I can't speak for everyone, but for most that is not the case AT ALL. If we had a fool-proof way to end the war, we would have taken advantage of that by now. Like I said, if you've got a better plan, please share.
