  • The turning point in the whole Med campaign was one convoy in August 1942 that allowed Malta to become an offensive base again. Il Konvoy Ta Santa Marija as the Maltese call it. My grandmother who was born in Sliema remembers seeing the Port Chalmers, Rochester Castle and Melbourne Star arrive, then the Brisbane Star the next day and two days later, the oil tanker Ohio limped into Grand Harbour. The convoy that saved Malta and turned the tide against Rommel and the Axis.

  • Of course these guys are heroes only in those years, the fate of the world is not resolved in the Mediterranean and in Soviet Russia.

Rommel on one tank division it was difficult to overcome the eight British army behind which lay a huge colonial possessions of the empire. In this fact the Nazis as a fox in someone else's vineyard.

  • Do any one know whose music was used in this film?

  • There were seven black African fighter pilots serving under the British Empire during this particular war but there is nothing metioned of them. Two of them are said to have scored more that 6 kills each! Racistis British cocks!

  • Yes, I grin when the names are mentioned. Adrian Warburton could dodge like a maniac and was ABC's best reconnaissance pilot. And George "Screwball" Berling was the ace of aces. He had a kill count of about 30 Luftwaffe M-109s.

  • The Germans developed a very large interest in North Africa as the war progressed as their need for oil grew. In order to secure the Arabian oil fields the axis forces had to first secure North Africa, something which was made impossible because of the disruption to supplies from Italy by forces from Malta. If Malta fell, North Africa would have followed and the invasion of Europe would may not have occurred.

  • You are seriously mistaken. The Germans desperately wanted to conquer North Africa in order to be able to conquer Arabian oil fields. It was important enough for them to send Erwin Rommel, one of the greatest generals in modern history to eliminate the british.

  • yep 8th september hailed as a victory in both cases.

  • guys did you know that the day that the italians and germans stopped bombing us maltese aka we beat them by not surrendering :3, that on the same day they stopped attacks was the same day we defeated the ottomans in The Great Siege of Malta back in 1565 :3 jus a fun fact :P

    Proud to be Maltese!
