@morethanyourbasics I don't think it was snobby or sarcastic. When I started doing my makeup, I didn't have my mom or youtube to show me how. It was all through trial and error. Also when I was a teen I didn't have the money for MAC. I don't even think MAC was around. I was a bit of an art nerd. So one day at the craft store I was like holy crap these look like makeup brushes and they are cheaper. The numbers on my brushes have worn off. I have no idea the exact ones I use.

@podgurski14 However, I think I'll wait for your numbers before I go out on my own to buy the brushes. Anything in the "arts" can get quite expensive fast.

@podgurski14 I think it is great that you've learned a lot of what you do from trial and error. Some of what i do is from that process but somethings I actually have been taught like graphic design. I think the alternative way to do things is definitely a way that should be explored a lot more and told to more people. Maybe you should make videos about it or blog (if you want).

@podgurski14 thank you for your thorough response. I've always been fascinated by "the arts" from a distance. I've always been inspired by it but for some reason I've just never thought that I would be good enough or that it was too late. I just enjoyed looking at other peoples work. After my last high school year i was like AJDKLJ;LJ there is no way I want to work in an office...and suddenly I've jumped head first into all that I wanted to do. graphic design, photography, jewellery etc.

@morethanyourbasics Also a few I took out of my art supplies that weren't good for painting but serve well as crease brushes. I was a tween/teen It was all trial and error. There are a few people on youtube already that have given comparable art brushes to MAC brushes. I find that some of the brushes I use don't even have a MAC counter part. I'll get back to you with the numbers/size. Not sure how soon but I will. When it is all said and done MAC doesn't have enough variety for me personally.

@morethanyourbasics I was 14/15 when I bought them. I'm 26 now. My best advice is to use what is comfortable. I feel a person's face is like a canvas. They come in different shapes and sizes. So pick brushes you think will work for you. The next time I'm at a craft store I can write down the numbers and brands of comparable brushes to the ones I use. When I bought them I picked them like this. Very thin bristle = eyeliner. Big and fluffy = face/blush. Small and fluffy eyeshadow.

@podgurski14 i think the reason why we all buy cosmetic brushes is because not everyone can look at a brush and automatically know what it does and how to use it. oh and it doesn't help that many of us are brand whores.
im curious to know which artist brushes you buy and where.
if you know an alternative way to do things i think you should be able to share it.
*disclaimer: this comment was not a bash or snobby sarcastic response. just genuine curiosity and thoughts. lol
