the filmmakers did not get permission to film in Romania, so they had to improvise. it was a nice idea, doing it like this; they could also have skipped Romania completely.

sometimes a difficulty is not a disadvantage, but turns out to be an advantage... if you know how to deal with it.

@togibars it looks like a Leica from the 1970's or 80's. I think the modern equivalent would be the Leica MP-9. Of course this is merely an informed supposition based in certain visual indicators, but I'm certain a Leica specialist would gladly help you find the exact model.

@kenyasong ah i see. i don´t know. i think it was sheer bullying, stubbornness or ignorance by some stupid, authorities / officers of post-Communistic Romania. maybe because the director is of Turkish origin (and most Romanians & Turks - but not all - hate each other,). maybe because they didn´t want a foreign film team to get a glimpse of the pooor & ugly side of Romania.

i think in the end they regretted the decision, for it´s a great movie.
