Recorded live at the Bogside Inn in Derry circa 1973 at a concert put on by the Official Republican Movement.
The concert was arranged in order to provide video footage and soundtrack music for a documentary film called NO GO! The film was briefly released, as was the soundtrack album (on the Columbia records label, I think).
Both the film and record were quickly withdrawn from the US, and probably British, markets as "the powers that be" considered them too supportive of "terrorism". Censorship at work.
For those who do not know, Bloody Sunday massacre took place on 30 January 1972 when a gathering of Civil Rights and Anti Internment marchers were fired on by the British Army's Parachute Regiment. It is often said that the dead numbered 13. It was actually 14, but the 14th victim died in hospital some weeks later, so by then the number 13 had become immortalised in people's minds. All the victims were men, all men of "military age".
It is obvious from this that the Paras picked and chose their targets. Had they fired into the crowd in a panic, mistaken or otherwise, the dead would have been a more diverse lot. The Paras, highly trained riflemen, obviously chose their victims carefully in order to support the fabricated excuse that they had been fired on from the crowd.
The dead of Derry were:
John Duddy 17
Patrick Doherty 31
Bernard McGuigan 41
Hugh Gilmour 17
Kevin McElhinney 17
Michael Kelly 17
John Young 17
William Nash 19
Michael McDaid 20
James Wray 22
Gerald Donaghy 17
Gerald James McKinney 34
William McKinney 27
John Johnston 59
Island Records. I think Island may have co-produced the film. If anyone knows if there are copies of the film available, please share.
