THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE A STAND-ALONE TUTORIAL. READ THE DIAGRAM-BASED INSTRUCTIONS LINKED BELOW BEFORE YOU COMMENT.

----

Enjoy my word salads, tongue smacks, and obviously overused words. *smack* as you can see *smack* firmly *smack* as you can see...hey I never said I was good at the talking part. :-P

Original instructions (also done by me) are posted here: http://donyaquick.deviantart.com/art/Origami-Unicorn-Instructions-123623739 - I strongly recommend looking at these in addition to the video tutorial. This video covers steps 1-7.

First a note on this series of 4 videos: I had to use my laptop's webcam, which does not doo well angling downward and staying in good focus. I did my best to try to keep the folds in view. Some of the smaller folds are very hard to see. For those, please see the instructions I have linked to above.

Do not use super-thick paper for this model unless you wet fold, which I don't recommend at all on a first run through. Unfortunately the thick waxy paper seems to be the most common stuff sold at the stores I've been to in the last few years, and it's very difficult to tell whether you're getting nice thin paper or thick waxy stuff without opening the packet (most packets don't give any hint about that, which is annoying). Foil paper is made of win IMO, but a downside of it I forgot to mention is that it will preserve any and all mistakes you make.

USAGE POLICY: To me this design is not complicated, so I would expect that other people have happened across similar patterns. However, I did develop this one myself, so I consider this my own design. Please do not reproduce my tutorials, and if you use them to make models to post here or on other websites, credit the tutorial or instructions you used.

  • what the origami name that orange one

  • @MrFezas I assume you mean the model at 1:46? That is my Pliosaur design. I don't have videos of that design, but diagrams for it are in my deviantart gallery. You can follow the link in the unicorn video description, click on the gallery link on the right of the page, and go to the collection for origami instructions.

  • one side is way tinier then it is supposed to be!

    this isn't working! :(:(

  • @interplanetsailor If you haven't already looked at the diagrams linked in the video description, those may help a bit. The first couple of folds that take place right after the model is folded in half have a big impace on the relative front/rear proportions (which I assume is what you were referring to).

  • @donyaquick thanks :)

  • The papers that I show at the start of the video can be purchased at most large craft stores (e.g. Michaels in the U.S.), although origami paper is sometimes hidden in strange places within the stores. The same paper can also be purchased online usually.
