The PSP Xenon is one of my favorite Maximizer - I am happy with it and see it as a good addition to my Waves L3 Ultramaximizer and the Multi Band Compressor that is included in Magix Samplitude 10. The Xenon is actually my favorite since it seems a little cleaner in high frequency sounds and the I really like the interface. The transient-handling modes are a great bonus - for Electronic Music probably one of the best Master Limiter PlugIn's out there...

Xenon is great. Not driven that hard though. Your waves are almost square! This is probably why you like the L2 over Xenon. Driven that hard L2 has the side effects you describe while Xenon does a better job under pressure. This all starts for me around -5/6 db of attenuation and if I have to do that there's something wrong in the mix. Loudness war considered.
It usually takes 1-2db of compression to glue a mix together same again with a limiter for a solid ceiling. The music is nice though!

those are not display modes, they are function modes.

And that's how not to use Xenon.
You maimed your audio.
