@kplatinum777 same. gonna look into other laptop brands. will buy a lenovo as a last resort.

My x100e does that, too.
Why is that even a problem?

id hate to say this but the think pad quality has move to the idea pad line. my polm rest dont move at all and the keyboard it the old one extent in white

I got a new retail (aka pre-built/not customized-to-order) and the issue is still present, same for the keyboard flex. I really want to like this laptop even if lenovo is tarnishing the ThinkPad brand. I'll try some of the fixes described online and see if they can fix the chasis, and I'll try and get a T61 keyboard from lenovo customer support.

Well, I ordered a T61 14.1" from the lenovo outlet, *new* &the LCD Top Cover had an arch in the frame. The LCD Top Cover, wasn't flat, & golf slope. They lack the right Quality Check people working for them. They have reinforced the T400 where the keyboard sits on with another plate. Idea! How about we just fabricate the aircraft metal that macbook pro's are made out of and apply a design to the lenovo thinkpads as an option. Might do it myself with one. Then I'll post mine on youtube! :-)

just got the t400 directly from lenovo and have been using it for about a week. i also have similar flex and quality issues, most notably in the dvd/cd bay. if the revisions have been made, was i just really unlucky? either way, imo its safe to say that lenovo thinkpad quality does not live up to the reputation of previous thinkpads of the past

Because the version you have is the revised one. The one in the video is an earlier release.
The difference between yours and the one in the video is that, your one has extra bits of metal to reinforce the keyboard from flexing.
So if you buy a new ThinkPad T400, they don't flex anymore.

The initial release of the T400 series was an attempt to save money with cutting backing on materials...They ended up correcting the flex issue in later revisions.

Just got a t400, no flex problems.
Final update: they replaced the laptop and I decided to roll the dice (as they had a great deal going at the time and I couldn't justtify the price of the Sony z). Anyway, I repurchased a new T400, and the chassis has a little flex around the RHS palm rest (ie should be none). The keyboard is much stiffer (even though this didn't bother me before. Having used the new keyboard I don't think I cound use anything else. So I am now happy with the T400 -> it does need better case plastic.

Did it really took them 2 months to replace your laptop? and did they give you some sort of discount for all the trouble you have been through?
Enjoy the lappy nevertheless.

No. Only about a month to really sort out. At least two weeks of phonong evey day -> whew they saw this video they declared it DOA. In hindsight (all trouble behind me) I've got a great Laptop. I dont expect much from customer service from them in the future (read clowns) but I guess this is a sign of the times now. Happy (eventually) and would buy again unless Toshiba really came to the party and started producing some nice gear.

Lenovo have declared it DOA.....they are currently looking into a replacement but I'm insisting on 10% off for my trouble. Otherwise I'll get a full refund -> looking very seriously at a Sony Z as I've really lost it with Lenovo.
