Currently, 80 percent of our area's physicians are imported from other parts of the U.S. Community health planning expert Paul Umbach predicts "America's Next Great Academic Health Science Center" will bring thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic impact to Spokane and Eastern Washington.

The Spokane region is gearing up to bring a comprehensive four-year medical program to the Riverpoint Campus in downtown Spokane's University District. The program, affiliated with UW School of Medicine's WWAMI partnership, is to be operated by the University of Washington and Washington State University. Individuals from Spokane's health sciences academic community comment on what this program expansion means.

Greater Spokane Incorporated hosted a panel discussion of medical, educational, political and research professionals at its Good Morning Greater Spokane program held June 11, 2010. GSI is committed to accelerating plans for the expansion of this program in Eastern Washington.
