I remember one night. We were sitting in my studio in North Hollywood working for hours on a demo - like we often used to and I asked him: What do you want to do in 5 years? Where do you want to stay? And I think he replied: I want to make a record that makes people forget about Led Zeppelin 2!
My first meeting with Jeff was some time in the late 80´s; I think it was in 1988. I used to be working as a producer and Co-Author for an R´n´B and blues-act in L.A.
We were doing a demo and one of the band members told me about a fantastic young guitar player who was in town and suggested me to invite him
I believe he wore a leather jacket on that day. However, the guy that walked into the studio looked like someone from the Lower East Side in the late 70´s sort of like a wannabe gunslayer as opposed to a typical L.A. guitar player of the late 80´s.
The moment where Jeff plugged in his guitar he came to life. He was actually very quiet and reserved but when he played you couldnt stop him
(performance)
I had moved to Los Angeles from New York and Jeff would always be asking me things about Manhattan where I had lived before. As a matter of fact to this day I still have one of his first letters of the time when he was moving to N. Y. There he had to find a job, he didnt know where he was going or what he was doing but he was really happy because he now lived in New York.
He needed to come to N.Y., it was his Mecca
3:37...HOW JEFF??? Speechless. Come back to us in some form...borrow my body if you must!
