  • Well can be both a predicate adjective if it is following a linking verb or an adverb when it is following an action verb. That's what makes it confusing.

  • One thing that may be confusing, though, is that certain linking verbs, such as "be" and "feel" can also be followed by adverbs as well as adjectives. For example, I can only say, "I feel well" or "I am well" if I am referring to my health. If I am talking about my emotional state, the only correct way to say it is "I feel good" or "I am good."

  • I like the part about replacing linking verbs with equals sign! My students will really be able to use that! Thanks!
