1972 Superior Coach 54" hightop Ambulance. Served Medford, OR. till around '86. It started it's life as an Advanced life support unit and ended it's career as a BLS Unit. Currently it's a parade and PR Machine. I attend events on behalf of my union mostly. The Ambulance Paramedics of British Columbia. CUPE 873.
The coaster siren is a Federal C6b with solar ray mounted in the front of it. On top is a Dietz "hill light" for a primary warning light.

  • is that an LED flasher that was added right above the amber reflecter at the front of the ambulance?

  • Shhhhh. Not so loud :) Yeah, I gave up trying for the period correct intersection light that I wanted. So, this little whelen LED warning light did the trick.

  • Beautiful freaking piece of machinery, you got there. Always cherish that piece of "Living History". Anyway, what exact year is it? And I can't remember the name of that particular "kit manufacturer"? There were two ambulance kit companies that GM did business with back then, but I can't think of either of their names. I think one might have been more preferred to the other. Or at least that's what an old EMT turned Cop told me once.

  • Hello,

    She was my baby until july '08. She now lives in NC. She was built by Superior Coach of Lima Ohio. This particular unit was leased by a company in Redeer Alberta Canada to Medford OR Ambulance.

    The other larger coach builder was Miller Meteor. S&S was another less known coach builder at the time.

    All these coach builders produced Ambulances as well as funeral cars.

  • I never thought ambulances V8 sounds so good...

  • I remember going to Lima to pick up ambulances for my employer, Schaefer Ambulance in LA, on a few occasions during the 70s. I picked up Cadillac 51 inch coaches and we bought a few Chevrolet wide Guppy high top type vans. It was a real trip bringing those back to LA. I stopped in Amarillo to eat and a lady asked me why a beer truck had red lights and a siren. Schaefer Beer was not in LA at the time and I thought the old gal was goofy. Superior made a good coach in my opinion too.

  • Can you do a video of the inside of it too?

  • damn that thing sounds nice!

  • Ghostbuster car

  • these old ambulances are cool , but also a little creepy too, they look like the hearses that they also built :P go to the hospital by cadillac ambulance. if you din't make it come out by cadillac hearse :{

  • I am surprissed there are any in servicel The Feds passed a law that any vehicle working as an ambulance must have a specific mimunim of equipment on board. That is why they went to the vans. Those great caddys and such just didn't have room.

    I have a '58 Cad superior ambulance original waiting some tlc. First car ever was a '40 LaSalle hearse, 3rd car was a 41 Bucik ambulance. Sure wish I stil had them.
