Yes, the owners knew of the dangers, but ya know what? so did the miners. they (and all other miners) were willing to put their lives on the line to provide for their families. so to all of you who think that miners are stupid/idiots/etc.-shut your mouths.have some respect.and yes, im glad he showed care for them (thought it may have been just for political purposes). and yes, IF he would have done what he said, and improved it, instead of tryin to get rid of it, i would be happy with that.

If Obama cared about the dead, he'd use his authority to decrease the risk of mining deaths by enforcing the laws of the land -- like he swore to do.

* Direct the Justice Dept. to open a criminal investigation of the mine company for ignored scores of safety violations which likely resulted in the slaughter of c. 3 dozen miners.

* Direct the Justice Dept. to open a criminal investigation of the U.S. Bureau of Mines which seems more interested in p.r. than protecting lives. * Admit the complicity of the government in the needless deaths of miners by putting owners' profits over safety.
