Wednesday, January 4, 2012, was an extremely busy day for me--lots of errands and "running around" here and there to do. However, I did manage to squeeze in a few minutes of railfanning. As can be expected, I always carry my scanner and camcorder with me whenever I am out and about, even when I am not able to railfan. While the wife was in the grocery store, I happened to hear the UP dispatcher issuing a Track Warrant to UP 8706 to proceed north along the UP DeSoto Sub from Barracks to Iron Mountain Junction. The minute she hopped back into the car, I said: "Honey, if you don't mind, we need to hurry down to Cliff Cave Park, since a northbound is due to blast its way through in about 15 minutes." So off we went!! About 2 minutes after I arrived and set up my camcorder, UP 8706, a northbound grain train, blasted its way through the park at about 60 mph. The sound of that Nathan K5LLA was awesome!!! UP 8706 is a new UP Phase 2 EMD SD70ACe. Behind it was UP 5621, a GE AAC4400CW, and at the rear of the train was UP 7111, a GE C44/60CW. I am soooo grateful that I have such an understanding and cooperative wife!!!! Enjoy!!!
Man you gotta love those Nathan K5LLA's best sounding horns I know. Nice catch and K5LLA Bill
