Horse slaughter is a cottage industry that (when legal in US) employed illegal immigrants , and enriched foreign investors while doing almost nothing to alleviate animal abuse or cruelty as regards horses. I feel very sad that you are so misled. There are 9.2 million horses living in the US, over 800,000 die annually, not counting the approx 100,000 that are slaughtered. How is it that we can cope with the other 700,000? Slaughter is just a dumping ground for the irresponsible. Stop breeding!

I have owned horses my whole life and as of now I have ten. 4 of which are rescue animals. I've seen people who cant care for their horses anymore dump them on the side of the road or leave them to starve in empty pastures where they die a slow and painful death.Sure, in a perfect world all horses would live peacefully in hip high grass but the truth is a little less than perfect. Like it or not there is a need for horse slaughter.Old,sick,or crazy horses need to be put down.Regulate the market

My opinion is that people should geld their stallions and stop breeding them so often. I also think that we should try to find a way to stop shipment to other countries, I have no idea how that can be stopped but I hope they find a way. The only reason that people are usually pro slaughter is because of the high population of horses. When there is such a high population there is definitely no guarantee that every horse will be cared for and loved.

I have no idea where to find the video that I watched on a slaughter plant in texas where they shot the horse 5 times after knowing the horse was down. I don't know why you used that example in the beginning considering that the horses that go to slaughter look that way. All of these stats you have are from pro slaughter sites so this isn't anymore persuasive then those would be. I am still 100% it. It is all about greed and stupidity.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion....Mine is that well regulated horse slaughter would improve the conditions for current horses.....I love horses but death is part of life....not every animal will have a good life so I believe that regulated horse slaughter would be a better option than having an abusive owner, being left to fend for yourself or just being neglected. I detest the way horses have been treated in the past before and during horse slaughter, but if done right it is painless
