Little Egret on the River Allow, Kanturk, Co. Cork

This Little Egret has been resident along the River Allow in Kanturk, Co. Cork for a good 6 months now. Its 50 miles inland at least. I've only ever seen one but maybe there are more?

This riverside "park" is the only place we can give the dogs a run really in Kanturk now but the bird has miles and miles of river to choose from and it always seems to be in this one spot so they can't frighten it too much!

Lovely to see a little egret - and they're not as little as I thought

They are beautiful birds, I wish my zoom was better on my camera but its a very old sony cybershot and it only has 3x zoom, I'll have to leave the dogs at home another time and sneak up on it !

I saw my first Little Egret in 1990 in Wexford and it was exciting because they were rare. Now they're every where!

I can't believe it prefers this stretch of fairly "built up" river its always in this one place you can virtually guarantee it.

we have a lonesome egret near Dunmanway too. Also always at the same spot.

I know I read a comment of yours about that so I remembered to take my camera out with me as I knew this guy was always in the same place

Well spotted! My first 1 on the Casla River in Connemara in the 1990's - must like their fish. Welcome back from d hols.......
