Franz Waxman Carmen Fantasy/Glenn Dicterow/Mehta/NYPO 2

Glenn Dicterow performed the brutal Waxman Carmen Fantasie live on television in the fall of 1989. Playing this work "Live from Lincoln Center" requires an iron sack, which Mr. Dicterow possesses, in addition to incredible facility and musicianship. He has been playing like this for well over 30 years. Hats off!

Sadly, the work is too long for youtube to present uncut, so here is part 2 of 2. As a bonus, I include Mr. Dicterow's talk with Hugh Downs.

Great style!

I find Dicterow to be one of the most stylish violinists on youtube videos.

Most violinists, even among the best of them, lack style.

Of course, Dicterow is also a wonderful virtuoso. That was beautiful and beautifully done.
