Nou Sove is the second in Sove Nou trilogy of films. The documentary is about people and organizations that are doing things to make a change for Haiti, the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Through the devastating earthquake that has ravaged the country, the scope of the film has changed. Some of the organizations already highlighted such as World Vision, The Pan American Development Foundation and Project Medishare now play a much larger role in helping to repair a country that was already facing incredible challenges. The focal character of the film is Jimmy Jean Louis star of the hit television show Heroes and the films Tears of The Sun, Monster in Law and Phat Girlz. The film follows Mr. Jean Louis on a landmark trip back to Haiti with celebrities Paul Haggis, Josh Brolin, Dianne Lane, Madeline Stow, Michael Stahl David and Maria Bello. We follow Jimmy to his birth home where he was raised with no electricity, shoes or running water. The trip chronicles the celebritys experiences through many challenges and uplifting moments such as traveling to Cite Soleil and Wharf City considered being two of the most violent cities in the world. They visit sick children at the St Damien hospital, the largest for free pediatric hospital in the Caribbean located in Port Au Prince and help in a funeral service the next day for one of the children visited the day before.
The film tracks the path from Miami to Haiti from Port Au Prince to Jackmel, from Petionville to Cape Hatien staying in The Citadel the largest fort in the Western Hemisphere for four days. Then New York at a benefit for the nonprofit organization Hollywood Unites for Haiti with Anthony LaPaglia and to Miami to a benefit for the Pan American Development Foundation with Rain Wilson from the hit show The Office.
Nou Sove touches upon the challenges many organizations face trying to cope, while helping the multitudes of Haitian women, children and men survive the earthquake, debilitating death rate and average death age of 57 compared to the Western standard of 74. The film explores the uplifting stories of hope against despair, and of the Haitian people to overcome the many challenges set in their path. It is a story of struggle and survival, but ultimately it chronicles the heart, soul and spirit of a country and of people no different than any other country in their hopes, dreams and aspirations for a high quality and standard of life.
