Improvising over Lady Gaga's new song. In my opinion, she is one of the most truly creative artists in mainstream in the last 10 years. She has the attitude of Guns N' Roses, "I'll do what I want and I don't care what anyone thinks" The inspired image of David Bowie and music sensibilities of Queen-meets-Euro-Trash-Dance. She also sings live, writes her own songs, and plays instruments very well.

A little bit of music theory goes a long way.

I remember a few songs that made scales 'click' for me.

I Just Want You, by Ozzy

Ain't It Fun

Don't Cry

The reason: The solos are based on the the minor scale and the minor chord is the starting chord in the chord progression. To me it was the first pattern I really noticed. Once you learn the pattern, you can start basic improv after you figure out what key the song is on.

Major chord progressions are a little different...

@scorpio1978 I did indeed, I watched it when you uploaded it some 3 years ago and it was the first time I had heard it and I still like watching it now. It's almost scary and addictive. As as guitar piece I think your cover is better than the record and probably my favourite video of yours which is why I mentioned it. I don't even own the CD and several of your videos got me into Ozzy in the first place.
