It was a characteristic of the Plumbicon camera pick-up tubes that color cameras CBS used in the Ed Sullivan Theater (Norelco/Phillips). They were resistant to 'burn-in' (which plagued the first Vidicon tubes used in the first RCA TK-40's) and when a lot of light was introduced to the tube, they 'smeared' instead of 'burning'.
