Fire and Ice is a 1983 animated film, a collaboration between Ralph Bakshi and Frank Frazetta, distributed by Nest Entertainment, which also distributed Bakshi's 1977 release, Wizards. The animated feature, based on characters Bakshi and Frazetta co-created, was made using the process of rotoscoping, in which scenes were shot in live action and then traced onto animation cels.

The screenplay was written by Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas, both of whom had written Conan stories for Marvel Comics. Background painter was James Gurney, the author and artist of the famous Dinotopia illustrated novels. Thomas Kinkade also worked on the backgrounds to various scenes.

In this animated tale, a tiny village is destroyed by a surging glacier, which serves as the deadly domain for the evil Ice Lord, Nekron. The only survivor is a young warrior, Larn, who vows to avenge this act of destruction. The evil continues, however, as Nekron's palace of ice heads straight towards Fire Keep, the great fortress ruled by the good King Jarol. When Jarol's beautiful daughter, Teegra, is abducted by Nekron's sub-human ape-like creatures, Larn begins a daring search for her. What results is a tense battle between good and evil, surrounded by the mystical elements of the ancient past.

  • @marzach87 You know a Frazetta fart the moment you hear one - he has that inimitable style. No-one parped like the great Fraz.

  • @papagdavidson Great CV that man has. Artist AND famous-fart-noise-maker.

  • @marzach87 That wasn't just any fart - that was a fart by the great Frank Frazetta.

  • Is it me, or do the mooks in this movie look more like orcs than the actual orcs in Bakshi's version of Lord of the Rings? XD

  • Why is it that in most Ralph Bakshi movies the female characters are always half naked? :\

  • 10:12
