Trust me, The music industry isn't dying simply because of p2p. While that may be true to some extent, the main reason the music industry is dying is because new music sucks. It's uncreative and simply bland. It has no "soul" in it anymore.
Soulja boy? Are you kidding me? What ever happend to real pop music artists like Hall & Oates?

new music sucks so much I gave up on it. I listen to audio books now...

Kinda ironic that you say CDs are a dying dog while reading from a magazine.

You sound like an insane street preacher, but you're right.

Why would anyone buy cds? You buy a cd with a mediocre forgetable song and the rest is complete garbage. Whatever happened to bands and real artists who would put out albums full of hits that we still listen to 30 years later? I turn on the radio and every song sounds exactly the same and they are all terrible. Nothing even worth pirating.

And here in 2010, physical media sales are AGAIN down 11% (through May) from 2009 levels, and digital sales are actually slightly down even. The main money machine nowadays is from touring and merchandise; as tour promotors have a similar hierachy compared to record labels. Live Nation is like a UMG, and attracts the best stars. Unfortunately, the music quality is another lost cause.

Artist have always had only 1 or 2 hits on albums since the beginning of time! I've been buyin music since the 80's and people were complaining about the same thing. Just buy the CD and support the artist, or youll be left with ameture artist.
Thanks GearMonkey! I just always thought most people thought like me... the internet is and will be the dominant form of media. My eyes have been opened and now I see there are many powerful execs who don't innately believe that. That's a dangerous position in today's world economy.
