Dear Teacher, Ah, a poet and a scholar. I agree for the most part. However, after engaging in several of these chats lately I wounder what you mean when you say, in part B, that fundamental laws and freedoms do exist. It is a strange response to my response. I agree to some extent that they do exist but I don't follow your line of reasoning. Also I would like more elabration on why you felt C was "too fatalistic?" Lastly, to your closing question: is what the USA?
Peace,

I agree that ignorance and misplaced attention are pervasive. However, surely that doesn't have to be the case.

Response to A: Courage may certainly be lacking. Apathy is a by product of luxury.
To B: Fundamental laws and freedoms do exists. Tyranny that is established through law, such as the Nazis, and can be stricken from law.
To C: Too fatalist for me. There is no certainty this would be the case.
In regard how the other litany of tyrannies from the past became established, it was often through deception with an ignorant public that was excluded from real contributions.
Is this the U.S.A..?

Amen sir! A scholar and a gent. Tell 'em like it is.

Dear Teacher,
A: Cuz too many lack the nutts.
B: Cuz there isn't much they could do anyway save violence.
C: Cuz if they did nothing would change. The same systemic problems would install a more savvy group of pirates.
Q: Why did the Germans not stop Hitler once he got the ball rolling? Why didn't the Romans toss the Emperors out and restore the republic? Study these and you'll probably be able to answer your question.

Because HappyTeacherESQ, the government and it's mouthpiece (the mainstream media) have performed their jobs perfectly at dumbing us down. I mean we're STILL arguing over whether torture IS torture...

It's waaaaay bigger than that!

Because unlike what people are told the "People" of America have no power. All the power is held by the moneyed interests.

The qualifications for being labeled a terror suspect were most likely
"...any individual having knowledge of the Central Intelligence Agency's involvement in recruiting and training Al Qaeda members."
And since the CIA are prosecuting deadly force on the monsters they built, they should consider dealing with the Cheney issue, as well.
Why don't the people of the United States of America hold their government to account?

We need to put Bush in jail with the same rules as the prisoners in Gitmo!
No human being deserves to be put in jail indefinitely. If you have proof of them committing terrorists activities then try them and put them away!
