More than sixty elementary through high school age Staten Island general, special, and vocational education students performed their poetry on April 13, 1991 at the St. George branch of the New York Public Library. This initiated what developed into ten years of an annual event of poetry and performance at libraries by Staten Island students documented in video and published in limited edition books by Ten Penny Players. The theme for the first event was "poetry, books, and reading."
