That may be true but we spend more per student than almost all others yet we continue to lag behind, granted much of this money is wasted on administration. Throwing more money at education is not the answer, we need to change the system.

Hi John, I'm not sure if you'll read this post of mine or not. I'm also not sure that even my respected community friends will pay any attention to this. Here I'm bringing to your notice effort of a common man to save John Marshall School in Cleveland, Ohio. He is my uncle settled in Cleveland and is currently the lone warrior to this attempt to save this school. Please help in any way you can, here is his video

America spends about 4.6% of the federal budget on education, that's doesn't come near the most in the world. Education systems that are largely based on public education work the best, just look at PISA's stats, pretty much all the top countries have very little private schools.
And most people who know anything well are academia. How many great minds of the 20th century were self taught? Einstein, Tesla, Bohr, Paul Erdos, Meitner... all academia.

I'm still waiting for the Conservative Libertarian to finally "go Gault" and start that island utopia he's been threatening. My suggestion for the book you take (since you've already read The Fountainhead twice): Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. I read it in eight grade, but then again I went to public school.

The U.S. spends more on education than any other country in the world. Our schools suck pretty bad. Violence is rising in the compulsory, public school system. People are forced to pay for garbage curriculum they don't agree with. Public schools should be abolished. Education, via the internet, is getting cheaper. Free books are available. Do we really need forced education? Those who know anything well are self-taught anyway. Oh, and Matt Damon is a statist control freak.
