I was hired by Joe Straczynski to create official Babylon 5 music videos for him to use at science fiction conventions, and later to promote the show to networks. We produced eight over the run of the series. Now, 10 years after the end of the series and numerous requests from fans, Straczynski has allowed me to post these online.

As I mentioned on another page, I had intended for the Phantom B5 Video to be my last. It covered the whole series, hit all the high points, but the series was over and Crusade had been sabotaged by TNT.

And then, maybe three weeks before DragonCon in the summer of 2000, the news broke that the SciFi Channel would be picking up B5 starting that fall. And since people had sorta come to expect something new from me each year, I had a few ideas and quickly pulled this together, including a very long and unbroken animation sequence to open the video. The music in the second section is from a movie, and was fresh in my mind, as the early versions of Crazy Watto (a Star Wars fanfilm of mine that would later play at the Cannes Film Festival) used it as an underscore. The first piece of music should be intuitively obvious, once you hear it.

  • I am sure that B5 will come back. There just needs to be an awareness, of its everlasting messages and the need to remember them.

  • This is the video to quote to anyone who doesn't know the sheer epicness of Babylon 5.

  • absolutely brilliant nice one !

  • Great video!

  • yo thats gene roddenberrys wife i forgot that she did come on here once

  • won't come back.

And there's simple reason. JMS got fed up at having to work with underbudgets that seriously limit what he can do.

JMS has pretty much stated that chance of new B5 material is virtually zero.

  • amazing VIDEO !!!!

  • @Goethe121212 JMS has already said he won't do Babylon 5 again unless it's as a cinema release.

  • Ah, yes, Moon does capture a bit of the Romantic intrigue (not in love-Romance, just in the Romantic philosophy), but it is an independent film. We'll probably see the New Romantic style preserved by several independent directors. The new film style is Raw and Edgy, so Romantic philosophy is out unless it captures that style.

  • Have to agree with you to a point - though I watched Moon last night and was staggered how brave they had to be to make that movie - so much of 2001 but with great effects.

  • Babylon 5 was born from the New Romantic style of acting, story presentation, which reached its zenith for the film trilogy of Lord of the Rings. Since then, few film or television production companies are willing to go that extra distance to appeal to the New Romantic philosophy.
