Here is some vintage video clips of the Comet roller coaster on opening day in 1947. There is also some bonus clips showing the Comet Jr kiddie coaster which opened in 1951. Lincoln Park closed in 1987 and what is left of the Comet can still be seen on the parks grounds. Very sad ending to this once popular amusement park.

  • I remember riding this as a kid. My gosh, it was so big and scary then. It looks pretty tame compared to todays mega-coasters, but it was still a great time. I really miss all of the family owned amusement parks as a kid.

  • Is the creepy music really necessary? xD

Other than that, thanks for posting this great footage.

  • i wasnt alive to see the park but its said they took down everything for aparment homes

  • Oh lord, seeing this brought back so many memories! Not all good, lol. I rode that coaster in its final years, and every ride was touched with the thought that it might be the last ride you take. It was insane, but we did it. In the film I could almost feel the Gs pulling as the Comet struggled to stop slipping around the corners...and the damn sign, the final warning sign where we all said a silent hail mary, catholic or not... for good measure. Oh man...

  • ok well then there are a lot of comets but to me they are the best ive riden for roller coasters so far

  • I am a family member the the man who died on the roller coaster. The storey behind it was when the park closed they workers could ride the carts. Well what would be my like 4 cousin was climing from the front seat to the back seat while the carts were moving (he wasnt the only one doing this) and when the carts started decending his foot got stuck 2 carts from the back and then he was pulled under. He was dragged then at turn one thats where he was thrown.

  • Little Amerricka in Marshall, WI bought the Comet's trains and intends to build a replica of the Comet and refurbish the original trains. The project will take 3 to 5 years to complete.
