I agree that it's the beginning like you say...but how long will it last, when the energy source that brings it to you is fossil fuels? She says not to be fooled into thinking that that is community but what she doesn't say is that online community is the toxic mimic of community. This is easy to confuse.

it is a very well known phrase "internet community".
and it is a fact that the sustainable-types gather here on youtube to have communications.
she says "don't be fooled into thinking that that is community..."
so - she is contradicting herself or playing language games.
youtube is only the BEGINNING of the new technological paradigm of cooperative collaboration using open source communications.
i mean? - do we have to be literally sitting at the same table to have a community?

now that's what I'm talking about, great video response.

it is challenging challenging challenging
i work hard to keep it as clean as i can and still there are wild misunderstandings that seem to defy any attempt to clean them up....
Well, the Internet can be a little bit community-like. It's just not *as* good as the real world.

If find computers frustrating, if I hadnt failed to help create the kinds of positive ways of life that I want then I wouldnt be here, but people can use it to gather their thoughts - its a kind 'back to the drawing board' scenario. Also when I've mentioned my Thomas Berry/Derrick Jensen /Gary Snyder type views to 'real' people Ive been told that I'm a zeolot and a Maoist amongst other things, at least no ones acused me of being a Maoist here yet.

oh yeah i like that 'back to the drawing board' analogy, monkeys, spot on. it seems to be our best option given the situation. and i think it's really important that we connect to kindred spirits and know we're not the only ones. i know it gives me strength, and at the very least, i get practice in articulating what's true for me so i can better do it face to face. :)
