The once-powerful Rome--rotten to the core by the fifth century--lay open to barbarian warriors who came in wave after wave of invasion, slaughtering, stealing, and ultimately, settling. As chaos replaced culture, Europe was beset by famine, plague, persecutions, and a state of war that was so persistent it was only rarely interrupted by peace.

  • catholism does not represent biblical christianity as a whole, they persecutes believers of Christ outside the chatholic church... pope is more powerful than God....

  • @Stardweller1 I'm back, I'm going to use messages besides comments so I can type more.

  • @P1B1U1H1 hard to say, they also contributed to illiteracy by monopolising learning. the one major reason why spain was so backward by the 1800's can be attributed to its staunch traditionalism. to open a university in catholic and orthodox states, one had to get approval from the patriachs(pope) first. also, most of the ancient works from antiquity were hoarded by the byzantine empire when rome fell.

  • @TheGeneralTB Actually, the Church was a big protector in the Dark Ages. An example: they converted King Clovis, who would have killed every Catholic if he had the chance.

  • thanks alot, clovis. you dink.

  • @Camprineman its tru chatholicism woss the enemy of real christianity caus thy only wanted power for them self and not for the ppl like jesus wott like it... but that is how the religion woss in the begining and the romans only convort caus thy try save and falling empire and allso wante soliders whitt high moral. this is not what you should think but europs past is not a sweet memory.. today ther is no differint bouth is tru christianity

  • @Camprineman If you worship Christ, you are a Christian. I does not matter what denomination you are, you are all worshiping the same god.

  • Ack, Clovis! You were better off as a Pagan. Ok, so I am partial to Pagans because I am one.

  • @Camprineman :'(
