Dragonball Z Super Collection SS Trunks ドラゴンボールZ 超サイヤ人トランクス

August is here! The eighth month brings the eighth figure in this set: Super Saiyan Trunks!

While a figure of Super Saiyan Trunks is pretty much an obvious inclusion for Bandai to make, they did it wrong.

First, all of the previous Super Saiyan figures in the series are set in different points of the series for each character. Like the SS Goku figure is taken from his battle with Freeza on Namek while the normal figure is modeled off of Goku from the start of the series. Same with Vegeta and Super Saiyan Vegeta, they have different outfits. SS Trunks is damn near identical to the previous Trunks figure. The torso is a new sculpt, but the outfit is the same. So why not just make a figure that can swap heads?

Second, the open hand. For Vol 7 they included a sword, but Trunks didn't have an open hand to hold it in. This is totally fine with me given that this isn't an action figure, it's a prebuilt model kit (we're lucky these figures even have waist articulation). So they fixed this non-problem for Vol 8 by giving Trunks an open right hand to hold the sword. Not only does the hand look horribly out of place, but it looks even worse holding the sword. The lack of articulation in the arm really renders the open hand useless.

All this aside, this is a pretty decent figure I guess. I prefer the Vol 7 Trunks more though for being a bit more down to earth.
