Fester Fish - Fester's Nephew

Fester Fish must watch his bratty nephew, on the same day he's supposed to have a date with his girlfriend!

I was thinking of making this black and white and adding more effects over it to make it look older, like I did with the "Introducing Fester Fish" video, but that seemed to just be distracting, and out-of-place. I conceived Fester as an early 1930's-style character, but the cartoon as a whole is really more inspired by Tex Avery than Ub Iwerks. Which sort of clashes with the more 30's-esque 'dancing buildings' and 'bobbing rhythmically" bits, but oh well.

I ended up just putting a very slight blur, and little bit of grain on the image, as well as muting the colours even more than I already had when I picked them.

Anyway, let me know what you think of it!

This cartoon is great. Sadly no major broadcasting show new shows that have the old school elements, especially the way your characters exaggerate themselves. Now I have 2 questions, why isn't this on tv. Also do you have any tips for the aspiring animator.

@863games Thanks. Here are some basic tips:

*Watch lots of old cartoons, and go through them frame-by-frame

*Read the animation books by Preston Blair, Eric Goldberg and Richard Williams

*Draw and animate as much as possible

*Read John K's blog, it's full of great lessons and inspiration

Have you ever pitched these at a network or anything? You could really make a living out of these. I mean, they are much better than the stuff that's on TV these days.

@NowThadius Right now I'm getting ready to pitch it, but first I need to figure out how it would work as a series. There would have to be some more characters (even if only minor recurring ones) and probably some sort of overarching concept for the show beyond just "Fester does some wacky stuff." Just a basic premise to provide some kind of narrative drive.

@NowThadius No, I just have lots of fun doing it. Throwing in little extra gags as I go along helps to keep it interesting for me. Money would definitely be nice though.
