this was 34 years ago... and he is still alive today

A living icon who spans the old Hollywood and the new. Only a handfull still alive who can boast that. Three that come to mind Ernest Borgnine and Eli Wallach both in their mid 90s and of course Kirk. Not a bad trio all greatly talented in different ways but survivors of that golden time in Hollywood which is sadly passed. The word icon rolls of the tongue readily but in reality is accorded to very few, Kirk is one of those and high on the list.

I wish we'd achieved Kirk Douglas' great challenge, 33 years on. At the very least, by now, no one in this world should be 'hungry-poor'. Nor have basic healthcare, or access to decent sanitation. Whatever the reasons, these injustices should have been corrected by now. There is enough wealth, just not enough will. But, generally, it's the ongoing conceit of the rich (by 'rich' I mean anyone reading this, and me) to think that they bear little or no responsibility for the existence of the poor.

Kirk is wonderful. I just really hate it when someone who does not live in America tries to tell us what our country is like or is doing. Kirk lives in a country that though he was hungry poor because of his father, Kirk could still go out and become a rich man and a star. Our political scene changes constantly because of a system that allows us to change it.
