She might have chosen to use different ribbons than the ones that go with her shoes because her shoes are Russian Pointes and their accompanying ribbon is VERY thick. It may be a matter of qaulity of movement and the aesthetics sometimes take a backseat.

Russians are really pale, compared to the standard ribbon used by most companies/dance schools :)

You need to break those shoes in a little more before you try dancing in them. Step on the boxes with your heel so they'll have more give, and bend the shanks a bit more so they'll support you better. Then finish breaking them in by dancing. That will help you a lot!

oo but be careful with the boxes because you dont want them caving in (very easy when applying pressure to the very tops of em) X33

are russians usually that loud? cause i know theyre hard.. so..

You don't step on the very tops, on the platform. That would completely defeat the purpose of the shoe! Just the sides, etc. to give them some give in demi-pointe.
